MOTH – the Flying boat

Someone looking at the lake, from the windows of our hotel, could have notice some yachtsman who enjoyed flying with their boats with incredible speeds. Those boats are called MOTH, heavy 30 pounds, made from innovative materials and created for giving fun. Due to the study in speed and aerodynamics, it is not easy to manage their energy, requiring skills as well as technical as athletic.

It is only few years that the phenomenon is catching on and, as often happens, for the launch of new products in the sailing sector, Lake Garda is the perfect theatre. Have already been compete on our Lake the European and the World Championships and Brenzone will be under spotlight for the next event organized for this class.

he butterflies will be part of the Italian Championship from 13 to 15 September 2013, organized by the Yacht Club Acquafresca in collaboration with Tremosine univela, offering a magnificent show from the shore. The sailing Club in Assenza is a true pioneer in this category and can be proud to affirm that is one of the first in establish a first approach to this particular boat, in addition to the normal educational activities over the various classes and be one of the best Kitesurf school.

At the end of August and beginning of September the lake during the weekend is plenty of sails in occasion of regatta as Gorla or Centomiglia, and offers interesting new features as in the case of the Moth.

Ferragosto in Brenzone - Saint Roch

The days between mid-August are special in Brenzone, in addition of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in the little hamlet of Marniga is celebrated one of the religious icon of the town, San Rocco.

The tradition of this festival is very old and the inhabitants are proud to be the passage of the baton in the Christian community life. A statue of the Saint, from the church of San Giovanni Battista, is carried in procession while rose petals are scattered.
In addition to this rite, usually follow three days of feast with dance, music and folklore, especially for children with a day full of games dedicated. The house specialty is the fantastic “risotto” accompanied by a sprinkling of parmesan cheese.

Is such a good thing the respect of the traditions (although some, which we discuss in the next post, have been changed) and is a pleasure to remember the icon of Saint Roch. The story tell that a Breton dog, named Reste, began to steal from the table of his master Gottardo Pallastrelli, a piece of bread every night. The master intrigued, following the animal, discovered that the noble gesture was made for the ill and suffering Rocco. Gottardo was converted in provide assistance to the needy and sick of the plague, became the first Saint Roch’s follower. From that day San Rocco is pictured next to a dog.

Rocco was treated by human "like a dog", and it is a dog that redeems the category treating Rocco "as a human". By us, in Hotel Brenzone, this sentence has a special meaning, convinced that in every dog we can find what in human is nowadays difficult to find, loyalty, vigilance, strength and virtue.

Night excursion with a historic ship

In the Brenzone’s dialect she is called “Siora”, Lady in English, although for years has not been considered as it has to. She was waiting in the Toscolano’s harbor the restoration in order to get her back to the lake. Veronica is a ship built in 1926 in Peschiera del Garda and she used to lighten the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio up, during the races organized on the lake in that period.

Since 2001, its unique charm came back and now she is considered the most historic boat that takes advantage of breezes, to sail from north to south on this mirror of the sky. Now the boat is based in Malcesine’s harbor, but thanks to the Brenzone hotel association, our guests have the opportunity to spend a romantic evening aboard, imagining themself in the role of brave captains.

Every Wednesday, is organized a tour lasts 2 hours that will allow you to appreciate from an unusual point of view all the Brenzone’s  beauties. The ship will circumnavigate the island called “Trimelone” (three cantaloupesJ) and then continue among all the villages.
