The king of the Lake Garda

A large numbers of fish lives the waters of the lake even if not all "wallow"

The Garda Carpione is critical endangered due to a study of the International Union forConservation of Nature IUCN. This fish belonging to the Salmonidae, find the lake of Garda as the unique habitat for reproduce and live. Is a fact that is an exclusive for our lake and all the attempts for introduce him to a number of other lakes in Italy was unsuccessfully in all cases.

The first law to protect the "King" was issued by the Republic of Venice in 1464 with an act that raised him to dish of honor at banquets. Nowadays the three provinces that administrate the territory are together looking for particular legislation aimed at its protection with joint actions.

There are two visions of the past and the future of Carpione. To one side the fishermen those are nostalgic of when the lake water was less cold and when from the side of the lake some rock slide were creating the natural habitats for reproduction.

In another vision, the researchers show that the decisive factor for the gradual disappearance was the inclusion of non-native species that are detracting the necessary food for its proliferation and in some case the eggs in the two periods of the year made for the reproduction.

In a mixture of nostalgia and desire for the preservation, the Garda Carpione struggle not to leave their land and continue to royally dominate this mirror of the sky that sometimes still recalls the Olympians, as he did with Saturn. The legend narrates the birth of this fish, but this is another story.

Brenzone, a land, a past

testimony of civilizations so different between them are telling us this thousand years history.

The oldest evidence of how already about 4,500 years ago man lived these lands, is based in the city hall of Brenzone. From that period to the present day different populations have alternated and the village has seen change its politics several times, never forgetting the nature and landscape that distinguishes today.

At first were the Germanic tribe called Brenni from which, one of the most popular hypothesis is that the name Brenzone derives, then the Roman Empire, the Venetian houses in middle age and finally by Venice and its Republic. Under the wings of the St. Mark’s lion the first families settled as the family named “Brenzone from the Lion” who left their mark in the municipal coat of arms.

The alternation of the different historical periods is still clear all over municipality. The stone of Castelletto, the Roman villa, the medieval’s churches, the ethnographic museum, or easily having a walk throughs the olive threes lead to the hamlet of Campo.
